Asking questions in English can be difficult - knowing what the word order is, remembering to use the auxiliary. You definitely need to practice it.

In meetings, questions are an especially important way for leaders to find out information, define who is doing what, and by when, among many other things.

Today we are going to review some useful questions that managers would use in meetings.

  1. Where are we on the project?

This is a way to ask what the current status of a situation is. An alternative way to ask is ´What is the situation right now with the project?´

2. What do you think of doing it like this?

Asking opinions is a common practice in meetings.

    3. Do you have the figures for that?

Getting evidence is important to back up what people say in meetings. Another way to check for evidence is by asking for information in the form of reports or records related to what the person is saying.

      4. How can we resolve this?

Often meetings are held to problem solve, therefore you may need to ask for solutions from the team.

        5. What´s the best way of getting this done?

Another way to ask for solutions.

          6. Who can take charge of this?

As a manager, it is important to appoint someone to tasks, so that you are able to concentrate on managing. All tasks should have a person, or people, designated to perform them, or carry them out.

            7. Can you take care of that?

If no one volunteers to carry out a task, then you need to assign someone directly.

              8. When can you have it done?

It is also good practice to set deadlines for tasks, even if it is not necessary, to motivate people and to get tasks done.

These are just a small selection of many questions that can be asked for productive meetings.

If you need English for your work, then you probably need English for meetings. Try practicing these questions out loud to help them become natural for you.
