Learning the correct preposition after verbs in English can be difficult, usually for the following reasons:

The proposition is different from the one you use in your language.

You don´t use a preposition in your language after the verb but in English you do, or vice versa.

Let´s start with the verbs that have different prepositions in English.

For example:

Ser responsable de = to be responsible FOR

This is one of the very common mistakes students make.

Let´s look at some common verbs that have different prepositions in English, or that have a preposition in English but doesn´t in Spanish:



Some verbs in Spanish have NO preposition HAVE a preposition in English.

For example:

Explain TO - I will explain it TO you.

Some verbs that have a preposition in Spanish do NOT have a preposition in English.

e.g.

Acceder a - to access.

I accessed the account.

Careful! as a NOUN: I have access TO the account.
